February News!  Well, there is LOTS going on!  In math, we are becoming Math Ninja Warriors!  We recently received a belated holiday gift of infamous “Holey Cards” and we are trying our best to learn facts and to beat our personal best time.  Daily practice makes ALMOST perfect!  We will continue to work hard to memorize our facts.  (HINT, HINT Third Graders!!  Practice those facts so you can MASTER them by Fourth Grade!!)  We are learning about area and perimeter.  It’s interesting how we learned that when laying carpet and flooring, you need to know the AREA of the room.  A life skill HACK!

The Iroquois village has been completed!  It was a labor of love and I think we are glad that we saw it to completion. The learning opportunities were endless during this project.  We obviously learned about the North Eastern Native Americans, but we learned so much more.  We learned about consensus- living with a decision that was made, but not necessarily a decision we agree with…  We learned about our strengths and weaknesses.  Some people were better at the artistic aspect of the project while others found they excelled at writing the fact cards.  All in all, a proud teacher moment!

So now we are onto SCIENCE!  What an exciting topic we are studying - magnets and electricity!  We will be making our own compasses, as well.  Since we have just started the unit, I really don’t want to divulge all the unit’s secrets!

I would be remiss if I did not talk about the special holiday that we “celebrate” in February! Valentine’s Day is Tuesday, February 14.  We will have a “mini” classroom party.  We discussed whether or not we wanted to celebrate with a party and the answer as a resounding YES!  So we will be exchanging valentines, and sharing some treats.  If you wish to send in something to share please let me know.  I would like to limit the candy amount and, unfortunately, we can not have homemade baked goods.  You may provide a store bought pre-packaged treat.  Again, please let me know if you wish to send in a treat.  I have a jug of juice and paper products.  Ahhh, love is in the air!!

So to end, some important notes-  parent teacher conferences are on Monday, February 6 from 12-7 pm.  If you haven’t responded to a time that you would like to meet, please do so.  I hope to see you all! The class of 2026 (?)  is selling Valentine’s Day flowers to be delivered on the 14th.  A pink order form went home regarding that.  Finally, please don’t forget that there is a week off from school from Monday February 20-Friday, February 24.  Enjoy your February!

As always, many thanks for your continued support (and L-O-V-E!)
