Fifth Grade News
Fifth grade has been off to a fantastic start this school year! In science, we’ve been learning about ecosystems and how to keep them healthy. We had the opportunity to learn about Adirondack tree identification from a wildlife educator and we also walked the school’s nature trail to identify local producers, consumers, and decomposers.
The class recently finished our first reading unit where we read a very engaging book titled Night of the Spadefoot Toads, focusing on plot, theme, character development, and setting. Students also finished a narrative writing unit which focused on telling a detailed short story that included a conflict, resolution, and dialogue. In math, the class has been working to develop a deeper understanding of place value, as well as multiplication and division of whole numbers.
Finally, in social studies, we have been studying maps and geography, and learning about ancient civilizations like the Aztec, Inca, and Maya. Along the way, we have also worked to develop a strong classroom community where we try to maintain a growth mindset and respect, encourage, and support one another.
We’re looking forward to a fun and busy year ahead!
