Muscial Contratualtions
Music teacher Ms. Katie Smith directed MCS’s production of “Matilda Jr.” on the weekend of April 19th. All the students from grades 4th-12th put on a hilarious musical with so much enthusiasm and talent! Congratulations to all the actors, actresses, stage crew, and directors!!
CASDA MerGer FEASiBILIty StuDY
The Feasibility Study Report has been sent home to the District Superintendent and the State Education Department. Once this has been approved there will be a public joint meeting of both Minerva and Johnsburg School Boards and communities. At this meeting, CASDA will present the Feasibility Study Report to the boards. There will be an opportunity for public questions at the end of the meeting. Following this presentation, a date will be set for both boards to decide, in their own separate meetings, whether or not to move forward with a public vote (straw vote).

2024 - 2025 School budget
The Board of Education adopted the proposed 2024-25 budget for $6,172,035 at its April 11h meeting, resulting in a spending increase over the current year’s budget by $93,440 or 1.53%. The proposed budget continues funding for all programs and services that are included in the current year’s budget. The proposed budget includes a 2.28% tax levy increase, and the estimated tax rate is $10.61 per $1,000 of assessed value in Minerva and $10.50 in Chester.
School board election
There are two people running for two open board seats in this year’s school board election: Nicole Griffen and Jessica West. One (1) five (5) year term commencing July 1, 2024, and expiring June 30, 2029, to fill the vacancy left by the expiration of the term of Joshua Scott currently filled by Nicole Griffen. One(1) two(2) year, 6-week term commencing May 21, 2024, and expiring June 30, 2026, to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of board of education member Stephanie Palmateer currently filled by Jessica West. The candidate with the lowest total votes will fill the remainder of the vacant term and the candidate with the most votes will fill the five-year term.
Board Meeting & Budget vote
The official budget statement will be mailed Tuesday, May 2nd, and the property tax report card will be in the mail Wednesday, May 10. Detailed copies of the budget will be available in the business office and on the school website. Please join us for the Annual Meeting / Budget Presentation on Tuesday, May 14th at 6:00 pm in the library, and remember to vote on Tuesday, May 21st between 1:00 and 8:00 pm in the school lobby.
