General Provisions for Academic Eligibility
For Participation in  Extra-Curricular Activities
 
 
Rational :   The Minerva Central School District recognizes the many benefits of student participation in extra-curricular activities.  At the same time, we must be continually aware of our primary objective to provide our students with a quality education.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY –participation in extracurricular activities ***

Rationale: The Minerva Central School District recognizes the many benefits of student participation in extra-curricular activities.  At the same time, we must be continually aware of our primary objective to provide our students with a quality education

Introduction: Any student who, at any five or ten week progress reporting period, is failing one or more subjects must meet the Principal or her designee, to discuss the student’s eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities. 

General Provisions:

A.  Any student failing one course will remain eligible for participation provided the following conditions are satisfactorily met:

1. The student will be placed on academic probation for a period of two weeks.  During this probation, the student will receive a weekly progress report. In order to remain eligible, the progress report must clearly indicate that satisfactory effort is being made to be successful in the course and that all assignments for the week have been completed.

2. At the conclusion of the probationary period, the student must arrange for a meeting with the Principal, or designee, to review the conditions stated above.  If all conditions are not satisfactorily met, the student will be subject to a one-week suspension from participation, continuation of academic probation, and further review of eligibility at the end of the suspension. 

B.  Any student failing two courses will be suspended from participation for  one week, but may be elegible for participation after this suspension provided the following conditions are satisfactorily met:

1. The student will be placed on academic probation for a period of five weeks.  During this probation, the student will receive a weekly progress report. In order to remain eligible, the progress report must clearly indicate that satisfactory effort is being made to be successful in each course and that all assignments for the week have been completed.

2. At the conclusion of the probationary period, the student must arrange for a meeting with the Principal or designee, to review the conditions stated above. If all conditions are not satisfactorily met, the student will be subject to an additional one-week suspension from participation and further review of eligibility at the end of suspension. 

 C. Any student failing three courses will be suspended from participation for  two weeks, but may be eligible for participation after the suspension provided the following conditions are satisfactorily met:

1. The student will be placed on academic probation for the duration of the sport or activity.  During this probation, the student will receive a weekly progress report.  In order to become eligible, the progress report must clearly indicate that satisfactory effort is being made to be successful in each course and that all assignments for the week have been completed.

2. At the conclusion of the probationary period, the student must arrange for a meeting with the Principal or designee, to review the conditions stated above. If all conditions are not satisfactorily met, the student will be subject to an additional one-week suspension from participation and further review of eligibility at the end of the suspension. 

 D.  Any student failing more than three courses will not be eligible for participation in extracurricular activities.
