    From the Superintendent

The month of December is quickly coming to a close and Christmas, according to a first grader I spoke to this morning, “is just days away”.  While December is a short month at school, it is a very busy one.  We recognized 42% of our students for achieving merits, honors or emerald status at our quarterly awards ceremony, and I’m so happy that we had a tremendous showing of parents and other relatives.  We reinstated our academic awards breakfast so it was a little extra special this quarter. All of our musicians performed at our annual Holiday Concert a couple of weeks ago, and I must say that our students put on a wonderful show. We had a gymnasium full of parents, family and friends who came out to support our students who have been preparing since September.  Our basketball teams are entering the heart of their game schedules so please check the game schedule on our website and come support our teams. The Academic Bowl Team is in full swing (and doing very well). Odyssey of the Mind meetings have started, our middle school Youth and Government group finished their program for the year, while our high school program is preparing for the annual conference in March.  Our National Honor Society is finishing up the Pennies for Patients service project in support of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Don’t be surprised if you’re missing some change from the penny jar! Last but not least, our Ember and Yearbook clubs are getting organized and diving into the work involved with these school publications.

The next school budget workshop is scheduled for Thursday, January 11th from 6:00PM to 7:00PM.  The workshop is open to the public for anyone interested in being part of the budget development process.  Following the budget workshop is the regular monthly school board meeting, which begins at 7:00PM.

January’s coffee hour is scheduled for Tuesday, January 30th at 9:30AM in the cafeteria. As always, I offer an open invitation to any member of the community who is not available to attend these meetings to contact me in order to set a different time to meet and discuss budget development and other school issues.

    Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
